February 5, 2026 - Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Monday that every Homeland Security officer, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on the ground in Minneapolis, will be immediately issued body-worn cameras. The move to body-worn cameras comes amid the fallout from the second fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen at the hands of an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Noem also said that, as funds became available, the body-worn camera program would be expanded nationwide.

“We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” Noem said in a social media post on X.

The Trump administration has worked to tone down tensions after the shootings led to massive protests and widespread criticism.

Some Republicans and Democrats even called for the impeachment of Noem. President Trump, meanwhile, expressed his support for Noem’s decision, stating that body cameras “generally tend to be good for law enforcement because people can't lie about what's happening."

Approximately 3,000 ICE agents have been deployed to the Minneapolis area since the monthslong crackdown on illegal immigration, as well as to deal with the ongoing fraud scandals in Minnesota.
