January 22, 2026 — A deal has been finalized that will make TikTok a new American entity, effectively avoiding the looming threat of a U.S. ban.

The idea of Americanizing the TikTok platform, which originated in China, has been discussed for years.

The social media platform company that boasts more than 200 million American subscribers signed agreements with Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX, an Emirati investment firm, to form the new TikTok U.S. joint venture.

The new company will work under “defined safeguards that protect national security through comprehensive data protection, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurances for U.S. users,” the company said in a statement Thursday.

President Donald Trump thanked Chinese leader Xi Jinping in a Truth Social post, praising the deal and thanking the leader for “working with us and, ultimately, approving the Deal,” Trump posted.
