Transcript
Today, my eyes saw things no eyes were meant to see.
I saw flood waters rise 26 feet in 45 minutes.
I saw a young girl floating on a mattress like it was a lifeboat.
I saw people clawing for air, for each other, holding each other's heads above the water.
I saw innocence floating in muddy water instead of a home.
I saw a man pull strangers out of rushing water before he vanished underneath.
I saw legs hanging from a tree, a girl, no older than 12, who survived 12 miles in rushing floodwater.
I saw bodies, some breathing, some barely, some not at all.
I saw unthinkable tragedy, and right beside it, things I still don't know how to explain, like the Coast Guard rookie who saved 165 lives, or the camp director who went under before any of the kids did.
I was there searching for one person.
Instead, I found as many walking miracles as I did lost souls.
But the one I came for wasn't among either.
